DEBATE
A debate is a setting where a panel of judges listens to and evaluates the arguments presented by two teams, one in favor and one against, regarding a specific issue or resolution. A debate is not a space for simply giving opinions, but for arguing persuasively. It involves knowing how to propose ideas, weaken the opposing argument, defend one’s own arguments, and ask effective questions.

WORLD SCHOOL
In this format, two teams compete: the Government, in favor of the motion, and the Opposition, against it. Each team has three speakers who deliver six substantive speeches of eight minutes each and two reply speeches of four minutes each. A key feature is Points of Information, brief strategic interruptions that enrich the interaction. Motions usually begin with “This House...” and address topics of global relevance, evaluated based on content, style, and strategy.
Our Tournaments will have English and Spanish divisions.

Prepared Rounds
The motion is announced several weeks in advance.
Impromptu Rounds
60 minutes of preparation, only within the team.
Public Forum
This is the debate format that DIAR has promoted in our country since its inception. It is a highly popular format in school settings around the world. The judge may be any citizen, whose role is to evaluate the quality of the arguments, the clash of ideas, and teamwork. The debate is conducted in pairs, and the resolution is announced several weeks in advance. By chance, one team is assigned to defend the resolution, while the other is assigned to oppose it.
